Common questions

How do I check something?

Open Safe to Tap, paste the message, email or link, and tap Check for Scams. You can also tap Check a Screenshot and pick an image.

Can I check straight from Messages, Mail or Safari?

Yes. Select the text or open the link, tap the Share button, and choose Check for Scams from the list of actions. Safe to Tap opens and checks it straight away. If you don't see it, scroll to the end of the list, tap Edit Actions, and add Check for Scams.

How do I filter scam texts automatically?

In the app, go to Account → Scam Text Filter and allow it. Then open the iPhone's Settings → Apps → Messages → Unknown Senders → Text Message Filter, turn it on, and choose Safe to Tap. From then on, texts from numbers that aren't in your contacts are checked as they arrive, and clear scams go to Messages → Filters → Junk.

It only works on regular text messages (green bubbles), not iMessages, and never on texts from your contacts or from people you've replied to. Verification codes are skipped, and filtered texts don't count toward your daily checks. To turn it off, tap Stop Checking Texts under Account → Scam Text Filter, or choose None under Text Message Filter.

A real text ended up in Junk. What do I do?

Open Messages → Filters → Junk and open the conversation; Messages offers an option there to mark it as not junk. Adding the sender to your contacts, or replying to them, also stops their texts being checked. Let us know at support@prodevy.com so we can improve the filter.

How accurate is it?

Safe to Tap combines automated link checks with AI analysis and catches most common scams, but it can be wrong in either direction. Treat the result as advice, not a guarantee. If a message claims to be from your bank, a delivery company or someone you know, contact them using a phone number or website you already trust, not the details in the message.

Why do I need to sign in?

Each check costs us money to run, so accounts let us apply fair daily limits. Sign in with Apple doesn't give us your name or email.

How many checks can I do?

The free plan includes 20 checks per day. The count resets at midnight UTC. The Scan screen shows how many you have left.

What happens to what I check?

It's analyzed and then discarded. Your history stays on your iPhone. Read the Privacy Policy for full details, including which providers are involved.

“Couldn't scan” or “analysis unavailable”

This usually means a temporary problem on our side or a weak connection. Wait a moment and try again. Failed checks don't count toward your daily limit.

How do I delete my account?

In the app, go to Account → Delete Account. This deletes everything our server holds about you, disconnects Sign in with Apple, clears your history on the iPhone, and turns off the Scam Text Filter.

How do I report a scam?

When a check finds a scam or something suspicious, scroll down the result to Report it. It lists where to report it in your country (the US, UK, Canada and Australia so far), such as forwarding scam texts to 7726, plus how to report it as junk in Messages or Mail.

I think I've already been scammed. What should I do?

Contact your bank or card provider straight away using the number on your card, change any passwords you shared, and report the scam to your local police or consumer protection agency.

Wasn't this app called Scam Lens?

Yes. Scam Lens is now Safe to Tap. It's the same app, your account and history carry over, and nothing about how we handle your data changed. The share action is now called Check for Scams.
